Engineering Test Manager

General Summary:

Provide vision as well as managerial and technical leadership in the development and testing of Adams Thermal Systems Products. Responsible for completion of engineering tests originating from ATS or from our customers. This position will require both strategic planning and hands on testing and technical support.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Managing all operating aspects of Engineering Test Lab
  • Lead role in bringing in new test capabilities as driven by market. This includes items such as staffing, facilities, and test equipment
  • Management of staff including initial recruitment, ongoing coaching, and the planning, monitoring, and appraising of job results
  • Promotion and standardization of engineering test lab procedures and methods
  • Test set-up, design and instruction.
  • Responsible for establishing and attaining a test schedule that ensures timely completion of all tests.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting to support testing.
  • Coordination of tests with outside labs where required.
  • Monitoring of tests to assure accuracy and completion
  • Analysis of test data.
  • Maintaining the lab systems and documentation at a level that meets customer and TS/ISO standards.
  • Directing or executing capital or improvement projects as required.
  • Direct interaction with customer engineering test organizations
  • Special projects as assigned.

Preferred Experience / Education:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Fundamental understanding of heat transfer and fluid flow.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and hands on ability.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and associated software for lab use. Data acquisition program experience required. Some programming background or exposure desired.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with technicians and engineers.
  • Analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Understanding of instrumentation, sensing and control.
  • Flexibility to travel as required (1 to 6 times per year).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self starter and self directed in daily activities.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in a heat transfer business and/or an automotive supplier would be a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting parts and fixtures that weigh 30 to 60 pounds and performing bending operations.
  • Standing on your feet on cement for 4 to 6 hours per day occasionally.
  • Working in temperatures above 90 degrees for extended periods could be required at times.
  • Ability to travel when needed for position.
  • Good manual dexterity needed for computer work and use of measurement equipment.
