General Summary
We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced hands-on IT Help Desk Technician in our Canton, SD manufacturing facility. This position requires working knowledge of hardware and software to assist users who have encountered problems. This individual will install, configure, and/or upgrade applications, computers, monitors, and peripherals. The IT Help Desk Technician will maintain and administer existing hardware and software inventory, IT department documentation, and maintenance agreements.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist computer operators in resolving technical problems with equipment and data. Troubleshoot problems with computer systems, including hardware and software, email, network (LAN including VPN and remote access), and peripheral equipment.
- Provide centralized help desk support to facilitate exchange of information and advice.
- Support and manage computer based equipment including but not limited to desktops, laptops, servers, monitors, cables, network systems, bar code scanners, plotters, modems and printers.
- Pull cables and rewire or direct the rewiring of cables as required for new installations and office reconfiguration.
- Develop and maintain security policies, backup policies and a disaster recovery play. This is to be reviewed and updated accordingly at least every six months.
- Analyze business requirements (e.g., functional and technical requirements, information need, business processes) by conducting information-gathering sessions with users, analyzing the information and prioritizing the requirements to gain an understanding of the business need.
- Recommend hardware and software purchases and upgrades.
- Develop and maintain documentation of legacy applications.
- Maintain schedule of service and support agreements.
- Maintain IT hardware asset schedules.
Preferred Experience / Education / Skills
- Degree in Information Technology required. 2+ years of experience preferred.
- Knowledge of computer applications including by not limited to Microsoft Office and experience with computer operations including Windows 2003 Server, Iseries Server, Exchange Server in a networking environment.
- Knowledge of JD Edwards and XPPS computer applications a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
- Good problem solving skills with initiative and follow through required.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills. Must be able to explain technical concepts and procedures to non-technical users.
