General Summary

We have an immediate opportunity for an experienced hands-on IT Manager in our Canton, SD manufacturing facility. This position requires hands-on management in the planning of company-wide information systems including hardware, software, telecommunications, and user support and network infrastructure. This individual will insure system resources are adequate and available to all users and make recommendations for improvements.  The IT Manager will work closely with other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

Essential Job Functions

  • Identify and manage technology operational risks.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Support and manage EDI activities, both customer and vendor.
  • Manage the operation of the ISeries (AS400) hardware and software.
  • Research and evaluate technology needs to determine educational needs, technology requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Provide hands on assistance as needed to the IT staff to deal with various technical and policy issues that arise.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
  • Partner with other managers to provide consultative support to planning initiatives through financial and management information analysis, reports, and recommendations.
  • Support team processes and the empowerment of people through training and education, and through management practices that reinforce individual responsibility and accountability.
  • Facilitate the review and selection of applications based on system requirements.
  • Negotiate with suppliers on software licenses, maintenance agreements, services contracts and service level agreements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Experience / Education / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or related field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in IT, preferably in a supervisory role.
  • Prior experience working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience negotiating contracts, managing vendors, and skilled in change management techniques.
  • Requires strong project management skills with a track record of successful project delivery.
  • Requires professional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate teams to meet deliverables within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Must be able to work independently with broadly defined work objectives and limited review of daily progress.
